Education
Every time I teach as a substitute teacher, in any school, I read the same introduction and rules to the students. By reading the same introduction and rules to the students I am able to set expectations for how the class will be for the students. This ensures that even if a student has not been in a class that I have taught as a substitute teacher before, that they will still be read the same introduction and rules when they are.
Here is the finalized(hopefully) Introduction and Rules that I will read to the students that I teach as a substitute teacher for the remainder of the 2023-2024 school year.
This is the form.
Mr. Edwards’ Introduction
Ok everyone,
(When noisy) Repeat, “Ok everyone”. (If inside) Sit down, (If in the gymnasium) Line
Up on the home sideline, (If outside or anywhere else) Line Up in front of me over
here[point],
Hello, my name is Mr. Edwards. You may only call me Mr. Edwards. Today I am
your teacher. I created a report form on which I record your attendance and behavior.
My report form gets sent to your normal teacher and the employee who makes the
final decision regarding student discipline in this building, in this building that is [say
name of that employee], as well as a member of guidance when it is appropriate for me
to send it to them. You are required to follow any direct instruction given to you by
me. I have rules for you to follow. Following these rules, as well as my direct
instructions, will help make everyone’s day better.
Remain silent until I say your name while I take attendance. When I say your
name, raise your hand and tell me that you are here, if you can’t then I will find
someone to help you. I will then ask you if you have your Chromebook, your
Chromebook charger, a writing utensil, and any other materials needed. Respond with
“yes” or “no” and then remain silent until you are called on again. After attendance has
been taken, I will read my rules to you and then explain what we will be doing for the
remainder of the class. Stay in the seats that you are currently in while I take
attendance and remain in them until the bell or if there is no bell my dismissal of the
class.
Take Attendance.
Ok. I believe that is everyone.
Read The Rules
Mr. Edwards’ Rules
I make exceptions to these rules when appropriate and make changes
to how they are written when necessary.

8. Keep the classroom door closed.
9. Focus on this class first. (The assignments for this class need to be done
before anything else can be worked on.)
10. Raise your hand once all of your assignments are completed and I will go
over to you to check the assignments for completion.

You may tell those around you to focus on me if they have not done so
already.)
Ok.
(Only when access to the online classroom has not already been given). Someone must
log into the online classroom for this class and show me the posted assignments, the
directions for those assignments, and the last several posts that your normal teacher
has made.
